Hey Everyone! its been a while since i posted. I am definetly going to try and post more! Before I get started i just wanna say as much as I hate the Rangers I hope Marc Staal is ok. We as Flyers fans know first hand what its like to lose a Player to a puck to the face. Seeing him squirm on the Ice wasnt fun to watch. I hope he is ok. Enough about that.
I just wanted to comment on a few things especially reguarding the trade Deadline. I think its awesome that The Flyers are a young team. However, its good and bad because all these teams know that we are in need of GOOD Defensive help (preferably a TRUE #1 Dman). The first thing teams are going to ask for are our young guys. Guys like courturier, read, voracek etc. With that being said if you look around the league you could probably count on 1 hand the "True #1 Dman". The obvious top 2 IMO are Chara and Weber. If we were not willing to part with courturier for weber Then there is are not many players out there that i would move him for.especialy for defense. I certainly wouldnt panic either. This is a young team and yes we are built for the future. The funny thing is IMO there is a win now mentality and i think that we have the type of young talent to win now and stay competitive for the future. I know a may catch some heat for saying this but i want to make a point in reguards to the Lindros trade, dont get me wrong either growing up and watching Lindros play was a treat he was a great player! It was even more exciting watching him play on arguably one of the most dominating lines in NHL history. But we gave up a lot to get him. with all do respect to Lindros and the teams that surounded him we gave a stanley cup or two to get him. (wierd point all the players that we traded to get Lindros except for ricci and the draft picks came back to the flyers at on point or another). i know its a different era and a different times. However, my point is that we should stay patient if there is an opportunity to aquire a "true #1Dman" then do it. With that being said I would like to bring up Kimmo Timmonen. Yes the guy has lost a step he is older. Timonen is curently 5th on the team in point, has 2 goals, 12 assists and has a plus 1 rating. The guy still has a cannon of a shot and he should use it more. I dont think he shoots enough.
I also realize that for a while there was a need for a right wing to play with G. Voracek has filled in nicely of late because he is shooting more. Voracek is currently the team leader in points with 27 with 10 goals, 17 assists and a -3 rating. I think his career high is 50 points in an 82 game season and he has the chance to match or pass that mark in a 48 game season. As he grows with this young team imagine what he can do in an 82 game season. he seems to be developing nicely. If you look at Matt Read he is more valuable then one would think. He plays the wing, the center (wins faceoffs) and can play on the powerplay and can kill penalties. On top of all of that the kid can score!
My point with all of this is that its tough to evaluate a roster in general. But to do it on a 48 game schedule with injuries is EXTREMELY difficult. Stay patient this year and maybe next year somthing may become available. or in Free Agencey.
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CRTIQUE THE SHIT OUT OF THIS ARTICLE I LOVE FEED BACK!! Its what this board is for. I hope everyone is doing well and made the transition to this new site! as always LETS GO FLYERS!!!!!
