TSN said it was for a draft pick, but didn't state which round. Not sure if this makes sense or not. He had a great rookie year and has tailed off dramatically sense, but not sure how much of that was attributed to Columbus being a bad team. Thoughts?
He can't be any worse of a backup then Leighton/Boucher and he does have some upside being he's only 24. Hopefully a change of scenery does him good. Is this a future move for next year given they could amnesty Bryzgalov in the offseason?

Its a 3rd round pick along with Leighton. The fact that Homer could actually trade Leighton is a miracle. I wonder if they could be seriously considering buying out Bryz

Apparently, they tried to get Ben Bishop from the Sens then focused on Mason after Bishop was traded to Tampa

let's face it they needed a backup in the worst way. they get a kid who's numbers have declined over the last 3+ yrs. but is still young at 24. the fact we were able to ship off a loser like Leighton for him is alright in my book. at least they have a backup for the end of the season and moving forward.

at least they accomplished 2 of the 3 things I wanted on my checklist. as for Bishop, really wish we could of got him but what TB gave up would of been the equivalent of us giving up Read and a pick. even with that I would of probably still made that deal

From what I had read, the Sens wanted Cooter as part of the package

I have a hard time believing that Bishop would land them Couturier. sophomore slump and all he's certainly got much more value then a goalie going to his 3rd. organization is just over a year.

Low risk, high reward. To me losing a 3rd in 2015 and Leighton is of no consequence to me. I don't watch Columbus at all so I don't know what the reason is for his declining numbers, but I did hear that he's been battling alot of nagging injuries this year and lets face it, Columbus is usually a bottom feeding organization in most years so that could have contributed to his declining numbers. I saw his numbers his rookie year and they are nothing to sneeze at. Even his second year, he had 5 SO's. So the talent is there. I just think he needs a change of scenery and supposedly we have one of the better goalie coaches in the league. Like you said, he is only 24, he has plenty of time left to realize his potential. It's not like we traded for a mid thirties journeyman here. I think this kid has the ability to steal games, but just needs to get consistent.

I would also have no problem starting Mason for the rest of the season if they plan on amnestying Bryzjackov next year anyway.

I guess the thought process even from some of the brilliant Philly reporters is Cooter will be used to land them a young defenseman in the offseason. I would prefer we try to trade Laughton for that D man. I really like Cooter and I just think he will get better and better.

Elliotte Friedman @friedgehnic 13m Appears Flyers are closing in on a one-year extension with Mason
Chris Johnston @reporterchris 22m It wouldn't be a surprise to see Steve Mason sign an extension with the #flyers soon.
Sam Carchidi @broadstbull 17m Steve Mason will sign 1 year deal with #Flyers very soon, his agent says.

IMHO, Mason's not very good - course the Flyers didn't give up much to get him, so yeah, it's a low risk move.
Blue Jackets play a very tight/defensive game - so a goalie not putting up good numbers in that environment should be a concern. Just look at Bobo's numbers by comparison.

Just a thought that came to me, if Homer buys out Bryz, he needs another goalie to in the fold. Any interest in getting Ryan Miller from Buffalo? There seems to be a lot of chatter that Buffalo may move him. Miller still has 1 year left on his salary, and I think his cap# is $6.25 million. Other options in UFA, Ray Emery or Mike Smith of Phoenix

Doesn't matter what the system is if you don't have the talent to execute it. Up until this year they haven't been a good hockey team. This year I think it has more to do with injuries for Mason. He's had alot of little nagging injuries that while it may not keep you from playing, but at the same time will effect your performance. Another thing to keep in mind, Voracek wasn't living up to his potential in Columbus, but became a better player when traded here. Different positions I know, but it is an example of what a change of scenery can do for a player.
