I think this is more doing the guy a solid and letting him mentor Morin a bit, I can't see anyway that he beats out Gus, Grossmann,Mez, or Oliver L

All this guy is good for is just being a big body that can block shots and throw his weight around. The guy really has no use besides that. If we are hurting for a 7th Dman, fine, lets see if he still has anything left, otherwise, why bother?

Maybe the benefit is having a guy who the younger dudes will think has the inside track to win a spot & push them harder? I don't know how much more motivated a 22 year old kid with a chance to be in the NHL can be though

I don't know how much more motivated a 22 year old kid with a chance to be in the NHL can be though Exactly, if a 22nd yr old isn't motivated enough at the mere chance of making an NHL roster and earning some significant pay then maybe that 22 yr old isn't fit to play this sport. That's just my two cents. Having a vet for the sake of having a vet is pretty pointless considering this roster is chock full of them. We'll see what happens.

I don't know about that Gervais is about as shitty as they come. at this point I would probably take Gill over Grossmann and MEz, but that's more due to salary cap reasons.
